1 The Head Smashed-In Buffalo Jump historical site was on our way south from Calgary to Glacier National Park in Montana. Situated on Blackfoot tribal lands, it memorializes how the nomadic indigenous tribes would instigate a buffalo herd to stampede off a cliff so they could be processed for a year's worth of preserved meat.
2 Recreation of the buffalo plunging off the cliff to their death. The site name "Head Smashed-In" does not refer to the animals. It references a Blackfoot warrior who tested the jump himself and found out the hard way that it would indeed cause cranial trauma.
