On the road to Maine for July 4th. Deb, Mary, and Josie enjoy the backseat. |

Josie reads the paper during the road trip |
Wait, the air is getting salty! |

The bridge from Portsmouth into Kittery perks up Josie's interest |
Stopped for lunch in Kittery at Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier |

Great outdoor spot along the creek |
 |

 |
Time's a wasting to order our first lobstah of the trip |

Mary and Deb enjoy their first lobster rolls |
After Chauncey Creek, we drove up the scenic Rte 1 through York Beach |

Bypassing the turnpike and continuing on Rte 1, we stopped at the Nubble Lighthouse for some photo ops |
Nubble Lighthouse is probably the most photographed lighthouse in the country |

It sits on a small rocky island just offshore that is off limits to the public |
 |

The keepers and maintenance crews travel over to the lighthouse in the small gondola bucket |
 |

 |
 |

Pausing for a rest across from the lighthouse before we get back into the car for the final short stretch to Kennebunkport |
Saturday morning we hit a craft fair on the Kennebunkport town green |

Some local bluegrass musicians were playing for tips, they weren't half bad |
 |

 |
Even Josie enjoyed the craft fair, along with lots of other dogs that she met |

 |
After the craft fair, we headed down Ocean Ave to check out St. Ann's. |

 |
 |

St. Ann's is situated right on the harbor and is open to the public. In nice weather they have outdoor services in the pews by the flagpole. |
Even the locals come to St. Ann's to sit by the sea wall, catch the sun, and watch the harbor traffic go by |

 |
By this point we were pretty hungry for lunch, so we headed over to Cape Porpoise for some outdoor lobster |

 |
 |

 |
We got our lobster and steamers and ate out on the deck with Josie |

 |
It's a working pier at Cape Porpoise and we noticed that their were a few boats that had just come in and were unloading their catch |

 |
 |

Crates of dogfish being unloaded into a refrigerated truck for transport to the wholesale auction |
 |

 |
After lunch, we headed back into Kennebunkport to wander the shops and galleries |

 |
Strongly tempted, but we didn't buy this t-shirt |

 |
We stayed again at the dog-friendly Hounds Tooth Inn in Kennebunk |

Max, Dave, and Josie first stayed at the Hounds Tooth in July 2009 |
Josie simply could not get enough of the chipmunk chew toy that we got her at the pet store in Kennebunkport. |

Now, if only she were this aggressive with the chipmunks undermining our front walkway! |
 |

Josie and Deb are tuckered out, time for everyone to take a mandatory nap |
Ripening blueberries in the inn's gardens |

 |
 |

July 4th morning, and Mary and Deb brought holiday-appropriate headgear for everyone |
 |

Getting ready for breakfast |
Fresh OJ and some type of spiced cottage cheese and cucumber dish that we could not get enough of |

Randee serving the guests |
 |

Max and Deb relax post-breakfast with a cup of coffee |
It's getting time for us to checkout and leave, so we need to take the mandatory group shots in the backyard |

 |
A fun time was had by all |

 |
Just in case we did not have enough lobster during our 4 days in Maine, we stopped at Capt'n Hooks in Wells just before we got on the highway to bring lobsters home |
