The Burning of the Ships Parade 2022 May 14, 2022

Early in the morning of April 8, 1814 during the War of 1812, the British torched 27 privateer ships in Essex, CT harbor. This was the largest naval loss in American history until Pearl Harbor. The Sailing Masters of 1812 is the local fife and drum corps that was organized to commemorate this event. Each year they lead a parade of other regional fife and drum corps down Main Street to a muster by the town dock where the British invaded.
